Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has urged Ghanaian politicians to search for some of the blueprints Dr. Kwame Nkrumah left behind to develop the country.
According to him, the country will never see the light of development if politicians focus on what they know and think without having a visionary plan as Dr. Nkrumah did.
Mr. Nyaho-Tamakloe who spoke on eTVgh monitored by A1 Radio noted that some of the developmental plans Dr. Nkrumah had for the country ought to be revisited by the current politicians to grow the economy.
“Well, we have a lot to do as a country. What exactly can we boost of that we can produce on our own. From the company even to the engineering field, what have they been able to do in developing this state? 64 years and we can not pinpoint anything or one individual. That’s why I said as a nation we need to sit down and think about it.
I give an example of India the difference between us is just ten years and they have been able to produce fighter jets. Their medical setup is excellent; where are we? Regardless of their huge population, they have been able to gather themselves. Look at Malaysia, we all started together. So, where our politicians will go or do to find the blueprint of Dr. Nkrumah and develop this country, they must do. Someone will have to go and look for it and then we can have proper planning If this country or we continue with this sort of four-year election that we are now so close to the point of forgetting about the development of this country.”
Stressing on whether there is a need to change the four years governing system to either seven years or more, Mr. Nyaho-Tamakloe noted that a serious and visionary leader can take even three years to change the lives of ordinary citizens.
He noted that “No I don’t believe that, we are in Africa if you give a ruler seven years he or she will trench himself it is simple like that. Even four years look at what is happening. If a leader is good within four years he should be able to do something that will make everyone see.”
Mr. Nyaho-Tamakloe served under the erstwhile John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor administration as the president of the Ghana Football Association from 2001 to 2005 and Ghana’s ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro from 2005 to 2009.
