Collation of NGOs in health calls for sensitization on Covid-19 in rural areas

The collation of Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs) on health in the Northern zone has expressed fear about how rural communities in the country are observing the Covid-19 safety protocols in their daily activities.

According to the Chairman of the collation of NGOs in health for the Northern zone, Patrick Namoo who spoke on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio said the Covid-19 safety protocols are not properly observed in rural communities as the virus is still with us. 

He said “Go to the real communities level it will baffle you to know that there are people within the communities who, as we speak now they don’t know that the virus exit. So it is the divine intervention of God that the virus does not get to them some too.”

Mr Namoo said the protocols work if you go to institutions nowadays it be comes a culture that before you enter the protocols are always observant. 

He added, “So we need to do more education, more sanitization and more advocacy at the rural areas because funeral for instants are still on going even though we are supposed to adhere to a certain protocol when we are to do private burial but still at the local level people didn’t understand” 

Mr. Namoo, further acknowledged the effort and measures being put in place by government in the fight against the diseases, and also urged the government to make it a point that facilities should preserve the Covid-19 vaccine, so that Ghanaians who are traveling out of the country without vaccinated can have the opportunity to vaccinate before leaving the country as it required.

He is therefore calling on the government and other relevant authorities in the health sector for more sensitization and education to be done in these rural communities.
