Real Madrid confirm Zidane’s departure
Zinedine Zidane has ended his second spell as Real Madrid coach after two years.

In a statement, Real Madrid expressed gratitude to Zidane for his “professionalism, dedication and passion”.

“Zidane is one of Real Madrid’s great icons and his legacy extends beyond what he has achieved as a coach and player at our club.

“He is aware that he has a place in the hearts of the Real Madrid fans and that he will always have a home at Real Madrid,” the club added.

His departure comes four days after their city rivals Atletico Madrid pipped them to the La Liga title on the final day of the season.

Missing out on La Liga confirmed Madrid’s trophyless campaign as they were eliminated from the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Chelsea. Before that, they were stunned by lowly Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey.

In his second spell, Zidane won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup to add to the nine trophies, including three Champions Leagues, won in his first spell which lasted three years.
