The Union of May Borns (UMABO) on Saturday May 29, 2021organized a massive blood donation exercise to replenish the blood banks of Afrikids Medical Center and Amiah Hospital in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, the President of UMABO, William Nlanjerbor Jalulah described the outcome of the exercise as very successful and the largest blood donation exercise to have been organised by the union since its formation in 2011.
According to him, since UMABO was formed, annual blood donation has been part of its core activities but this was the first time the union designated two separate centers for the exercise with two hospitals facilitating.
“UMBO is 10 years old and as part of our activities to mark the anniversary, we have decided to donate blood to support for two hospitals. Though this activity is not new to us as members, on our 10th anniversary, we think that we should do more. So, we have organized two centers for the blood donation; Afrikids Medical Center and Amiah Hospital. The reason is that during the rainy seasons, there are always serious shortages of blood at the various blood banks. So, Union of May Borns has seen the need to donate blood to our hospitals to save life.”
Mr Jalulah thanked members of the union and members of the public who participated in the blood donation.
Some of the patrons told the media that they answered the union’s call because that was one of the ways they could directly support with in saving life.
A laboratory technician at Afrikids Medical Center, Ramatu Musah appreciated the union for such an incredible initiative and called for more from the public.
