An educationist Nii Ardey Armah, has stated that the quality of education in the country has been affected, which is occasioned by the implementation of government flagship programme, the Free Senior High School program.

The educationist believes , in as much as we aspire to educate the entire nation, if there are challenges, it must be looked at.

He stated, ” When we say the quality is affected, we are not saying that in a vacuum” but rather the quality of the country’s educational system is being compared to other countries.

Mr. Armah who was speaking in an interview on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio, said it would be wrong for anyone to say let’s benchmark our educational system when the top quality is there for us to look up to, so it will unfair for anyone to think that what parents are saying about the challenges of free SHS is wrong because “parents take their wards to school, parents interact with their wards and teachers” so one can not downplay their concerns about the quality of education.

He said, they are talking because they want a speedy improvement in the quality of education that is offered under the free SHS programme, which they are not seeing.

He further stated that, the conversation about free SHS and culture of silence are two different issues and he does not see how the issues are related.

Mr. Armah, is of the opinion that parents interact with their children and until they see that quality of education offered their children is improved they will keep talking.
