UE/R: Regional Minister pledges to boost tomato production

Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has pledged to support farmers in the region to produce large quantity of tomatoes which can feed Ghana and other Africa countries.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement and sensitization for farmers in Bolgatanga on tomatoes production and marketing in the Upper East region which was organize by the Department of Food and Agriculture in the Upper East Region.

Mr. Yakubu stated that, the New Patriotic Party government has massive interest in agriculture, reason the government implemented many agriculture programs such as Planting for food and Jobs, Rearing for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development among others to uplift agriculture in the country.

The Minister said, as a political head in the region, he is committed to ensuring that, the region recaptures the tomatoes trade from Burkina Faso.

He said, “I am equally interested in agriculture and as long as I remain the political head of this great Region, I will do all within my power to ensure this noble dream comes to fruition. As one of my commitment to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo during my appointment, I assured him of my desire to ensure this region and for that matter Ghana, to recaptures the tomato trade from the Burkinabes and I am going to do just that” He stressed.

The Minister further, expressed appreciation to the Department of Food and Agriculture for organizing the workshop to educate the tomatoes farmers.
