As road crashes continue to be a national canker, the Bolgatanga Municipality has become the hotspot of road crashes in the Upper East region.

This came to light when the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in the Upper East Region in collaboration with the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly engaged stakeholders to deliberate on issues confronting road safety in the region especially the Bolgatanga Municipality.

Speaking at the forum, the Upper East regional director of NRSA, Abdulai Bawa Ghamsah said, records from their outfit indicate that, the Bolgatanga Municipality is recording the highest number of road accidents in the region.

He noted that, motorbikes are contributing to the high number of road crashes in the municipality.

He said “We just selected some years to demonstrate to you without discrimination, on casualties in the Upper East Region and Bolgatanga is doing well than any other municipality or a district in the region, and when I said doing well I mean more people are being killed here and more people are getting injured on the roads than any other district so in terms of worst performance, Bolgatanga Municipality is leading.”

According to him, “the biggest problem we should be tackling is, the motorbikes riders die more than any another, follow by small number of buses within the Bolgatanga Municipality and next is pedestrians and then cars.”

Mr. Ghamsah, highlighted some of the road safety rules and regulations that the authority together with the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly will be embarking on, in the coming days to curb the increasing road crashes this includes forming a task force and night high way patrol team among many more initiatives.
