Communicator with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, Abdullah Salifu has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to as matter of urgency allowed the Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh to resign from his duties.

He holds a firm view that Mr. Oppong-Boanuh is not fit for the IGP position because he is old and lacks the strategies to combat the recent upsurge in crime.

Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh in recent media reports has been quoted to have said that the recent insecurity witness in the country is not new as it is only Heaven that is without criminal activities. This comment however made many people especially those in the opposition parties calling for his resignation.

Mr. Salifu who spoke on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio noted that, the IGP’s comment implies that he has failed in all standards and does not have what it takes to fight crime.

Stressing on why IGP should resign, Mr. Salifu explained that, “His comment sort to give hope for the criminals to continue doing what they do best. Instead of him telling Ghanaians the strategies he is using to tackle the upsurge in crime – he’s telling us only in Heaven that doesn’t witness such. Is he saying that he has even been to Heaven? This man should not last a day at work, he should be sacked or asked to resign honorable so that young Commanders with fresh brains who will know how to man our security situation to take over.”

He added that, if President Akufo-Addo allows him (IGP- Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh) to continue working, it will indicate that the NPP-led government does not have the citizens at heart.
