UE: Police introduces ‘stop & search’ mechanism to combat crime

Due to the upsurge in criminal activity in the country, the Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region has said it has introduced a stop and search mechanism to fight it.

The initiative, the police says will help its personnel at various checkpoints to seriously deal with the recent crime as well as monitor the movement of unscrupulous people.

Speaking on A1 Radio regarding a recent arrest of two alleged arm robbers in Butrisa -Fumbisi road over the weekend, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region, ASP David Okoyere-Fianko noted that the police is on high alert and will make sure it brings to book any suspected criminals.

He asserted that, the police will continue to do its part to combat crime in the region and will not hesitate to seek support from the public to collectively minimize criminal activities.

Touching on the public cooperation, ASP Fianko appealed to the public not to see crime-fighting as a unit entity rather a collective effort by all and sundry to be involved.

The officer assured the public especially people in the Upper East Region and families living around the border towns of maximum security protection.

“Our department is currently building some police posts around the various broader community to ensure maximum security.”
