As part of its corporate responsibility to ensure that there is enough treated water for consumption by its customers, the Ghana Water Company Limited in the Upper East Region will launch the Rehabilitation Project on the 28th June, 2021 to help boost water supply in the region.

Speaking on the Sunset Drive on A1 Radio, Regional Production Manager Eng. Seidu Abdul Rahim explained that the project seeks to retrofit the plant and initiate new technologies that will help in the optimization of the plant usage “This means that we are going to be able to produce more water and possibly ending the rationing of water very soon after this project.’’

He said the rehabilitation project is expected to last the whole of September which is currently affecting water supply to homes of residents.

He assured customers and the Upper East Region that once the project elapses there will not be any shortage of water supply in the region affirming that there will be a 24/7 water supply in their homes.

Commenting on the recent inconsistent water supply in some highlands in the region, the Commercial Manager at Ghana Water Company Limited, Mr. Mohammed Bashiru explained that, because of the increase in population which has relatively increase the demand for pipe-borne water, there is less pressure from the pumps to be able to push water to these areas.

He reiterated that, “most especially those who are on the lower land, if they are fetching there is no way the pressure will build to your end that’s why it comes at 3;30am because people are not fetching so that is why the pressure will then build and get to the highlands.”

Also, the Regional Water Quality Manager Atimbire Evans has stated that, his department does not compromise on the quality of water for consumption but explained that some human activities sometimes tend to affect the quality of water that consumers get at their end.

He mentioned, some constructors break their pipelines and when that happens a pool of water is collected at the place which later self-siphon and gets into the pipelines which decrease the quality of water supplied.

Mr. Atimbire, was responding to questions about why customers fetch water and after sometime, they find out there are some residues beneath their water storage containers.

He therefore advised, the public to desist from breaking supply pipelines which has the tendency of decreasing the quality of water for consumption.
