A victim of the Bachongsa Teachers’ Quarters fire in the Builsa South District of the Upper East Region which occurred on Monday 28th June 2021, said six rooms out of the eight rooms in the entire building have been burnt to ashes.

Mr Noah Tertey Kwesi, a teacher staying in one of the rooms said the sad incident took them by surprise as they were not expecting something of a sort.

The cause of the fire, Mr Kwesi said was a result of a leaking gas cylinder that was placed close to a burning coal pot in a room of one of his colleague teacher.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Clement Apaak is assuring victims that measures are advanced to assess the damage of the fire.

“I will dispatch a team to visit and assess the damage as I await an official report from the District Director of Education and the Ghana Fire Service. Also, I thank the Fire Service for their swift intervention, given the distances from both Fumbisi and Sandema.”
