The Overlord of the Wa Traditional Council, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo has strongly condemned military brutalities meted out to some residents of Wa on Thursday July 1, 2021.
Speaking on behalf of the Overlord during a visit to the town by a delegation from the Military High Command, the Jinpenhi Naa, Naa Kadri Ibrahim said “the atrocities meted out to innocent people in the area, coupled with what happened in Ejura by those who are supposed to protect the citizens is frightening and should be of concern to all peace loving citizens of this country.

He described the acts as “dastardly and unacceptable”. The Overlord expressed worry that the acts of violence could have been meted out to anyone as he recounted the physical abuse of the Public Relations Officer of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, Cletus Awuni along with the Regional Manager of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ahmed Mustapha.

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah described the actions as unfortunate saying that “we were all happy when a few weeks ago we came here to train on how we will be able to defend the country and especially the Upper West Region. We chose places like Hamile and Wa specifically to conduct our training and the sort of reception we got from the people made us all very happy only for last night scenes of horrible events on social media, Facebook, about some misguided soldiers taking the law into their own hands and going round and brutalizing people”.
Military High Command meets with chiefs and elders of Wa
He disclosed that “the Military High Command immediately met and a decision was taken that early in the morning, as the Chief of the Army Staff responsible for land operations must get on board an aircraft and fly over here and come and render an unqualified apology to the Overlord and the good people of the Region”.
He said the perpetrators would be fished out and dealt with according to the code of service discipline. The Upper West Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) together with the Military High Command visited one of the victims at the Wa Municipal Hospital.
