A pregnant woman was among some residents of Wa in the Upper West Region who were brutalized by some rampaging army officers.
On Thursday, July 1, 2021, a video went viral showing armed soldiers beating some residents of Wa on the street. It later emerged that their condemnable act was over a supposed missing phone belonging to one of the soldiers. When the video went viral, the misconduct of the soldiers was widely condemned by well-meaning Ghanaians and the Military High Command.
Subsequently, the Military High Command dispatched a delegation from the Ghana Armed Force in Accra to Wa to meet with the chiefs and to try and console the victims.
A1 Radio’s Upper West Regional Correspondent, Mark Kwesi Ahumah Smith reported on a Reporters’ Visit, an A1 Radio news and current affairs analysise on that the assaulted pregnant woman was medically well as she did not sustain serious injuries.
The reporter said though calm has returned to the area and residents are going about their normal activities, they have expressed shock over the actions of the military officers especially since they have always lived in peace with them.
