The chiefs and people of the Lambussie traditional area in the Upper West Region are asking government to convert the Senior High School at Lambussie into a boarding school.

Making the appeal, the President of the Lambussie traditional Council Kuoro Salifu Tengie Dy-yaka observed that students walk for about 3 kilometres from the Lambussie township to the school every day.

He mentioned that the situation poses undue stress on the students and thus affects effective teaching and learning.

Kuoro Dy-yaka said the Senior high school in Lambussie is in not in a good shape due to rain storm. He appealed to the President to give an urgent attention to the school to bring back to life.

Kuoro Dy-yaka stated this when the President Nana Akufo Addo interacted with the chiefs as part of his two-day visit to the Upper West Region.

The Chief used the opportunity to channel challenges affecting people in the area.

These included bad roads, inadequate electricity and lack of a district hospital.

The paramount chief said Lambussie is the only district in the Upper West Region without a tarred road in the district capital.

Responding to the concerns of the people the President Nana Akufo Addo said the Lambussie district will benefit from the agenda one-one-one project where one hundred and eleven health facilities will be constructed.

He said government has embarked on comprehensive road projects and that the district will be considered.

He promised the Lambussie SHS will be rehabilitated within the shortest time.

“The roof of the community high school, that is going to be dealt with immediately after my visit. Within the course of 10 days, you will see some results. I always delighted to hear traditional rulers commit themselves to issues of education in their communities. The various issue that you have raised; provision of a school bus, conversion of the school into a boarding facility are matters I will be taking up the minute I get back to Accra with the Minister for Education,” he pledged.

The president finished his tour of the region with an interaction with chiefs and people of Nandom traditional area.

The Acting President of the Nandom Traditional Council Naa Domepeeh Gyereh commended government for the commitment to improve the road infrastructure in the area.

Naa Gyereh also acknowledged the impact of government’s policies on the lives of the people.

The President Nana Akufo Addo said the spate of armed robbery has been brought under control in the region and urged all to support the security agencies.

He said as a way of promoting business, government is working to establish Agricultural Development Bank in Nandom.
