Tamale Farmers Union (TFU) has described calls for the dismissals of the Agric Minister, Dr. Afriyie Akoto as sheer propaganda and pernicious motives.

In a statement issued by the union on Friday, July 23, 2021 it describes a statement issued by the General Secretary of the Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), Edward Kareweh calling on president Akuffo Addo to dismiss the Agric minister as unfortunate.

They accuse the General Secretary of GAWU as “a blue-blooded National Democratic Congress (NDC) fanatic who is known for his penchant of running down and distracting the public from the unparalleled and monumental achievements of Dr. Owusu Akoto.”

The Union further said the agric minister can not be blamed for the current shortage of fertilizer hence allegations linking the agric minister to fertilizer shortage is meant to tarnish the hard earned reputation of the minister.

Below is the full press statement.

Request for Sack of Agric Minister is borne out of Sheer Propaganda and Pernicious Motive – Tamale Farmers Union (TFU)

We, the members of the above group (TFU) have noticed with great displeasure, a statement made by Mr. Edward Kareweh, the General Seceretary of the General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), requesting the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Agric Minister over claims that he has run out of ideas.

It is very surprising and highly unfortunate to hear that, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the master-brain behind the Planting for Food and Jobs(PFJ) Program; the most startling achievement of the Nana Akufo-Addo led Administration which is serving as the main anchor for the Free Senior High School (FSHS), One District One Factory (1D1F), among other policies to thrive, is today being described as a person who has run out of ideas.

We cannot, on any day, lose sight of the fact that, under the leadership of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, there has been an extensive modernization and improvement of the agricultural sector of the Ghanaian economy; one of the most massive in the history of the Country, which has improved food security, created employment opportunities and has reduced poverty chiefly among the youth in the northern part of the country of which we, the members of this union are practical beneficiaries.

In furtherance, the increased access to adequate fertilizers and seeds initiated by the Minister for Food and Agriculture has brought about an increase in food production in our region and the entire nation. The Planting for food and Jobs program under the watch of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has also supported the Youth in Agriculture Programme (YIAP) for which the youth in the Northern Region have benefited hugely.

We are by this reiterating categorically and emphatically that, our pertinacious minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, cannot in any circumstance be blamed for the current shortage of fertilizer. Hence the enigmatic demeanour of the General Secretary of Agricultural Workers Union is borne out of sheer propaganda hatched to tarnish the hard earned reputation of our fantastic Agric Minister; the best in the history of Ghana.

In conclusion, Edward Kareweh is a blue-blooded National Democratic Congress (NDC) fanatic who is known for his penchant of running down and distracting the public from the unparalleled and monumental achievements of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Food and Agriculture, and H.E President Nana Akufo-Addo led Administration.

We therefore entreat the public to disregard his prejudiced assertions and stance, and treat them with the contempt they rightly deserve.
