Director of Legal Affairs for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Abraham Amaliba has stated with fear that he doubts President Akufo-Addo will give the newly Special Prosecutor that freedom to fully operate his duties.
President Akufo-Addo is someone who likes to be in control, he said, and per the mandate of the Special Prosecutor, he needs to operate freely without any interference but that will be a challenge under this government governed by Akufo-Addo.
The director who spoke on Daybreak Upper East Show on A1 Radio, in Bolgatanga noted that the credentials of the newly Special Prosecutor is unquestionably and match for the office but doubts his commitment as there are a lot of blockages awaits him.
He said “I’m still skeptical on whether the government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo will give the Special Prosecutor the freedom to function. We all know what President Akufo-Addo is capable of.”
Touching on the expectation of NDC, Lawyer Amaliba noted that they as NDC wants the Special Prosecutor to go for corrupt officials under the current government before any other individual.
He explained “We as NDC will support him fully if he is not biased. We are all in this country and we know the cases that are brought before the office under this government. So, we expect him to go after them first, then, we all can throw our weight to help him.”
