I’m not here to ask for more money – Finance minister assures Ghanaians of no taxes

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta has assured Ghanaians that the 2021 Mid-year’s budget will not touch on taxes, rather, will focus more on how to further strengthen the economy.

Speaking at the 2021 Mid-year Budget Hearing in Parliament, the minister noted that the government through his ministry has been able to put on strategies that have helped the country not to ask for more money from Ghanaians.

He said through strategies measures and interventions regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic, they have been able to put the economy on the right path.

Touching on some of the success chalked under the government in terms of managing the economy, the minister indicated that interest rates, exchange rates are low as compared in 2016.

He said “…as it was in 2016, our interest rates are lower than they were in 2016, our exchange rate is more stable than it was in 2016. We did not have to layoff any worker none cancel teacher and nursing training allowances. Furthermore, we did not go to the IMF for bailout program; this is because we have managed the economy much better than it was managed after 2016.”

He added that government has come out with strong rebound economy growth reason the country is now seeing, “low inflation rates, stable currency and strong reserve position.”
