UW/R: NHIA inches closer to attaining universal health coverage

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says it is inching closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage in the Upper West Region.

This is because the Authority in the region has been able to cover about 77 percent of the entire Regional Population of about 712,206.

Speaking with the media at Wa, the Upper West Regional Director of the NHIA, Samuel Lobber indicated that as at June, the Authority had registered 682,622 persons onto the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Mr Lobber was confident that with increased and improved strategies, the region should be able to region the entire 712,206 person’s across the region for the region to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

“Today, we are here to take stock of activities we carried out from January to June and review same to enable us to prepare adequately for the next quarter (s). I therefore call on each and everyone to actively and dispassionately participate in this meeting so that we can contribute ideas and strategies to further improve on our performance indicators towards our journey to Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” he said.

The Regional Director Continued to explain that “as a region, we are currently at 77% i.e., Active Membership of 682,622 of the regional population and the minimum entry requirement for UHC is 80% of one’s population. As staff, We are committed and determined; coupled with the support of Management to meet this qualification requirement by the end of the year for the good people of the region as will be seen in the subsequent slides”.

The Regional Director of the NHIA, Mr Lobber commended the Wa West District for their commitment towards ensuring that more people subscribed unto the service

He explained that without an official vehicle to conduct it’s activities, the District had still been able to exceed it’s target to the year during the half year period.

Mr Lobber encouraged persons with grievances to quickly report to any of the offices of the NHIA in the region for quick redress.
