Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central Constituency of Upper East Region has said that, it is not surprising to him that majority of Ghanaians are struggling to survive in the country as they are battling with two types of COVID-19 pandemics.

According to him, though COVID-19 came with its effects, President Akufo-Addo’s government is worse than the pandemic as it has helped collapse many businesses as well as rendering thousands hopeless.

The Member of Parliament made the comment at a Tertiary Education Institute Network (TEIN) program, a student wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) organized by the Bolgatanga Technical University’s students Union of the association on Saturday August 7, 2021.

He stressed that “The President is more than the coronavirus because every aspect of the sectors he touches usually get scrambled from education to economy. The reality is that, the economy is messed up because no country can survive spending 91% of its tax revenue to pay debts and settlements. No country can survive when it uses about 65 % of tax revenue to pay wage bills of 7000 people in a country where the population is about three million people. Clearly, this government does not know what it is doing and will definitely take this country back to where we all do not pray for.”

Touching on the educational sector, the MP stated that the current administration has made both the basic and second cycle institutions lack their credibility.

He said “Under Akufo-Addo, immediately you send your child to school by the time you get home, the child will be in the house looking at you. When you ask, he will say they are on vacation. What kind of education system is this? Unfortunately, NDC set up a Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) initiative to address some of the educational challenges but when this government came to power it has used the GETFund to borrow money and spent already GHc 685 million of the GETfund proceeds to serve debts and other things to the neglect of eliminating schools under trees and furniture challenges.”

Mr Adongo, however, called on the students to take their education seriously as that would be one of the ways they can help build the party.
