If your PhD economics can fail us, it’s your internet IT skills that can digitise Ghana? – Isaac Adongo questions Dr Bawumia

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central constituency in the Upper East Region, Isaac Adongo has asked Ghanaians not to be deceived by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia claims that he is digitalizing the country through technology and computerization.

According to him, the Vice President is doing what is generally considered as system improvement and not digitalization as digitalization is not a stand-alone system improvement of computers.

He said, “Digitalization is not stand-alone system improvement within computers. When we say digitalization we are talking about a complex system that communicates with each other and on top of it one can have an overview of whole the country.”

The Member of Parliament made the comment at a Tertiary Education Institute Network (TEIN) program, a student wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) organized by the Bolgatanga Technical University’s students Union of the association on Saturday, August 7, 2021.

He stressed that “When the economy is in crisis, Dr Bawumia has left that to become an expert of IT. So, when you learn economics from O-level to PhD level, worked at the Bank of Ghana and other fine institutions yet can not solve or find solution to arrest the dollar against the cedis, it is the Information Technology (IT) that you have learned from the internet that can solve the crises.”

Mr Adongo noted that any time the Vice President hears that a public sector is introducing an accounting software to manage its activities, “…he will go there to say he is introducing digitalization and computerized system. Who does that?”

Touching on countries that have advanced in the digital world, Mr Adongo said police officers in the United States will not run after vehicles that have jumped traffic lights as the system has already been designed in such a way that the officers can use their computers to identify which vehicle and who the owner is at their comfort.

“Can Bawumia system do that? Clearly, what he is busy doing is system improvement.”
