Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency of the Upper West Region, Peter Lanchene Toobu as stated that lying and covering up on issues bothering on security is a threat to security.

Mr Lachene opined that acts by the current government such as recruitment into the security services without advertising is a receipe for chaos as such acts greatly compromise the security of the state.

The former police officer said there were times that government has been caught lying about critical issues relating to the security such as clearing of backlog for recruitment into the security services for persons who have previously applied to join security services.

Mr Lanchene was speaking on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio said there is the need for greater transparency on matters that relates to security because it will increase public trust in the security service which will go a long way for greater collaborations from the public.

Touching on the issue of the police using horses for patrol in parts of Accra, Mr Lanchene said it is not totally a new thing to the Ghana Police Service as horses are use by the Police in ceremonial events.

He said horses are strong animals and have been used in fighting wars in the past so the Police using them now for patrol will go a long way to help increase police visibility and prevent crime on roads.

Mr Lanchene  added that even though horses are expensive and difficult to keep, the decision by the acting IGP, ACP George Dampare to use them to compliment the efforts of the police to patrol is a step in the right direction and must be applauded.
