Upper East Regional Health Director of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Emmanuel Kofi Dzotsi has advised husbands to encourage their wives to undertake family planning as it is beneficial for the mother.
Dr Dzotsi appeal came on the background of the Upper East Region seeing some appreciation in family planning rates from 35.7% to 39.4%.
Dr Dzotsi was speaking in an interview on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio said most men are apprehensive about their wives undertaking a family plan but that should not be the case because appropriate spacing of children allow parents to take proper care of their children.
He added that aside the fact that proper spacing of children fosters good parentage, there is the need for the body of the woman to take some rest and regain itself because during the process of childbirth the body of the expectant mother undergoes some changes.
Dr Dzotsi said the region was witnessing a decreasing rate of immunization for measles which is attributed to Covid-19 pandemic because mothers were afraid of contracting the virus at the immunization centers so most of them did turn up for the exercise.
He advise members of the public to take their personal health serious by adhering to the wearing of face mask and observing covid-19 protocol.
