An educationist, Nii Armah Addy has said it is important that we emulate best practices in other parts of the world such as England where teachers must have license before going to the classroom to teach.
Mr Armah said a clear roadmap must be developed and followed to ensure that people who want to become professionally licensed teachers can know and follow but ultimately the best is for the teachers to write the licensure exam.
Mr Armah who was speaking in an interview on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio quizzed whether there was specific materials that is tailored towards the licensure exam because every professional exam has those materials and tools that one needs to put together to prepare towards the licensure exam.
He further said if all the necessary tools are in place, “ no one has any reason to say that they either do not want to write the exam and if they write the exam and they have not done so well and the pass mark has been lowed and yet they are not passing, I think that it is something worth looking into.”
Mr Armah said “either the tools for the licensure is not there or the preparation for exam is inadequate or the teachers themselves are not preparing enough to write the exam.”
Mr Armah called on stakeholders in the educational sector to work together to resolve the challenges with the licensure exam so that it does not affect the teacher to student ratio in the country.
