Government needs to speedup on manufacture of own fertilizer – Agric Director

Upper East Regional Director of the Department of Food and Agriculture, Francis Ennor has urge government to put up measures in order for the country to produce it own fertilizer for the Ghanaian farmers.

Speaking to the media at Agriculture Sector Joint Review Meeting in Bolgatanga under the theme “Consolidating the gains of Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) in the wake of Covid-19” Mr. Ennor said, due to Covid-19 pandemic it has affected prices of fertilizer in the country because of importation of fertilizers into the country, hence the need for Ghana to produce it own fertilizers to support the farmers.

“The fertilizers are expensive because of the situation that we have find ourselves, the Covid-19 has actually made things that we import very expensive, and almost every week the prices at the international market changes and that is what has caused the increment of the fertilizers prices.

So as a nation once we are drilling our own oil, the government have to speedup how we can manufacture our own fertilizer in the country, there are some initiatives and I am praying that they will hasten it so that come next year or the coming years as a country we can produce our own fertilizer” he stated.

Mr. Ennor also noted that, their records has indicated that the planting for food and Jobs program in the last farming year (2020) has done well as compared to the year 2019 and they are expecting the best performance this year.
