Non adherence to Covid-19 protocols responsible for soaring cases in Upper East Region – Dr Dzotsi

Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Emmanuel Dzotsi has indicated that people’s refusal to adhere to covid-19 safety protocols is contributing to the soaring cases of the virus in the region.

Dr. Dzotsi, who was speaking in a mini forum organized by A1 Radio with support from Media Foundation for West African said people in the region have relaxed their observance of Covid-19 protocols such as wearing of facemasks, hand washing and social distance.

He said the efforts that ensured that the region recorded less infections when the first Covid-19  first was recorded in the region have been derailed causing an increasing number of infections.

He said people have gone back to their normal life neglecting safety precautions which are a cause of concern for health professionals in the region.

Dr. Dzotsi said activities that bring large gathering people such as funerals are greatly contributing to the increasing infections in the region especially the central business district of Bolgatanga which has become the epicenter of the pandemic in the region.

Dr. Dzotsi indicated that currently the region has an active 25 case count, 51 persons have succumbed to the virus in the region and 4 Covid-19 patients are at the Bolgatanga treatment center.

He urged people within the Upper East Region to adhere to all safety protocols in order to limit infections.

The forum which was organized under the theme “Covid-19 Response in Africa: Together for Reliable Information” brought together health professionals, CSO’s in health, communities leader and NGO’s in youth development.
