The Wa-Nadowli-Lawra-Hamile road would be opened to traffic in the coming days.

This is because, work to temporarily fix the parts of the roads carried away by rains have begun.

The opening of the road would mean that commuters, public transport vehicles and cargo vehicles who used to only that stretch before disaster struck on August 13th, would be able to begin using the road with ease again.

When A1 Radio’s Upper West Regional Correspondent got to the site where heavy rains and rushing water carried away parts of the road, work was going on earnestly.

One of the Engineers with P.W Ghanem overseeing the reconstruction of the road, Engineer Ceaza Ghanem said the plan is to fill up the road and make it accessible to road users temporarily.

He added that after the rains cease, the engineers would then return to construct culverts with channels to allow water to flow. This he said will prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“We are trying our best so that we can fill the place so that hopefully today, the road can be opened and the people can still pass. This job is big and what we are doing today is to fix it temporarily so that the cars can pass. While the cars are passing, we will carry on with out work.”

“This work is not the full work we are going to do due to the weather conditions,” he said.

He mentioned that the second part of the highway which was affected, Yiziri, would also be temporarily fixed with the coming days to ensure that that the entire Wa-Nadowli-Lawra-Hamile stretch is accessible.
