The Upper East Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) has put on hold the filing of nominations for parliamentary aspirants in two out of its 15 constituencies.

The constituencies are Pusiga and Talensi.

At the moment, filing of nominations has ended and only one woman has filed to contest the Bawku Central seat.

The Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Adams Mahama, who made this known to the Daily Graphic in Bolgatanga last Saturday, stated that apart from Talensi where its incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr Robert Doameng Moasure, had been made the new Paramount Chief of Tongo, the party would not disclose why it had stopped the exercise in the Pusiga Constituency.

Unopposed

He further explained that five of the constituencies would be unopposed. They are Garu, Tempane, Zebilla, Bolgatanga East and Bongo East.

He stated that the party opened nominations for aspirants to contest the remaining eight constituencies. They are Bolgatanga Central, Paga Chana, Builsa

South, Builsa North, Navrongo, Binduri, Nabdam and Bawku Central.

Nineteen aspirants have filed their nominations in those eight constituencies.

According to Mr Mahama, the only female aspirant, 55-year-old Madam Gabiana Abugri, a Physician Assistant at the Bawku Herbal Health Centre, would do well if given the chance.

The chairman observed that the party would officially communicate to the leadership in Accra developments in the Talensi area.

He described the exercise as very successful.

The chairman entreated the electorate in the region to vote massively for the NPP come December 2016 because it was clear the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) was not capable of fixing the country’s economy and energy crisis.

He also urged all parliamentary candidates to avoid “politics of insults and fighting” because at the end of the day, party members must come together as a united force to unseat the NDC.
