The Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West in the Upper West Region, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has lashed out at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after the latter refunded an amount of GHS237,000 given him as a salary increment for the year 2021.

The move by President Akufo-Addo was said to be a demonstration of exemplary leadership in line with his pronouncement on May 1 that pay rise for himself and the executive would be frozen to help deal with the effects of Covid-19 on the Ghanaian economy.

But Mr. Toobu in reaction said the move by the president “is vexatious. Vexatious in the sense that if you can spend 2.8 million dollars flying to go and bring a loan of 170 million dollars, and you come and slash your salary, what sense does it make? You could have saved the 2.8 million dollars. We don’t need your salary. What kind of hypocritical life is this?”

“You spend 2.8 million dollars flying around to go and borrow and you come back and say I’m slashing my salary. Excuse me; we have to stop this level of mediocrity as a country. It is bad. It is insulting our intelligence.”  He told Samuel Mbura on Daybreak Upper East on A1 Radio.
