A Kumasi-based legal practitioner, Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has been elected as the new National President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
The election which was held both virtually and in-person at this year’s Annual General Conference in Bolgatanga saw Mr. Yaw Boafo polling 605 votes representing 52.83% beating his contender Mrs Efua Ghartey, who polled 540 votes representing 47.16%.
The total votes cast was 1,149 representing 89.84 percent of the total valid votes.
Mr. Yaw Boafo who has been in the association for many years is expected to chair the new leadership of the association for the next three years.
The visibly elated Mr. Yaw Boafo could not hide his excitement after the declaration of the results.
He thanked his colleague lawyers for the honour done him and promised to hold the association in its high esteem.
He however called for a collective effort by all members for the progress of the association.
In the case of the National Vice President position, Kwasi Amoako Adjei had 656 votes defeating his opponent Mrs Yaa Onyameye Gyakobo, who got 486 votes.
Nana Serwaa Acheampong also won the National Treasurer position.
Meanwhile, the National Secretary and Public Relations Officer positions went unopposed.
