Dear Sir,

PETITION: UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT OF POLICE PATROL TEAM ON THE PUSU-NAMUOG ROAD IN THE TALENSI DISTRICT OF THE UPPER EAST REGION

I write to petition the Regional Police Commander of the Upper East Region of an unprofessional conduct of the Police patrol team on the road of Pusu-Namuog on Sunday September 19, 2021 between the hours of 1245 and 1300.

On the said date and time, our brother, Francis Gbandan Mahama who was riding a motorbike with a pillion rider were stopped by the Police patrol team who demanded the documents covering the motorbike. Our brother explained to the Police that the documents were at home and suggested handing over two mobile phones belonging to him to the Police to serve as surety so he could go home and bring the said documents since his house was a bit far from the scene.

The armed Policeman turned down his request and wanted to collect the keys of the motorbike from him (Francis Gbandan Mahama) which he could not hand over for fear of losing the motorbike in the event that he returns and not find the Police Officers . In the process, the armed Policeman shot him on his leg with his weapon wounding him severely.

Our brother, Francis Gbandan Mahama is currently on admission and receiving treatment at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga.

The family is therefore demanding an urgent investigation into the incident and compensation for the harm caused to our brother.

The family is anticipating an urgent response to this petition  from your good office as we pray for our brother’s recovery.

Signed.

cc: Inspector General of Police, Ghana Police Service.
