2021 PHC results: Upper East constitutes 4.2% of Ghana’s population

Provisional results on the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) conducted by the Ghana Statistical Service indicate that the Upper East Region has a population of 1,301,221 million representing 4.2 percent of Ghana’s population.

Further breakdown of the figure for the region shows a total of 631,963 males and 669,963 representing 48.5 and 51.5 percentages respectively.

According to a press release by the Ghana Statistical service, the country’s population figure is now 30.8 million as against 24.78 million in the last census conducted in the year 2010.

The statement indicates that Ghana’s population is growing, but at a declining rate as compared with previous censuses; adding that “Females make up a greater proportion of the population in the 2021 PHC as has been the trend for the past four censuses. They outnumber makes in 10 out of the 16 regions.”
