The Upper East Regional Director of the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Jalaldeen Abdulai, has called on parents to take keen interest in the upbringing and movement of their children.

Speaking on Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio regarding recent reports of kidnapping and ritual killings in the country, Mr. Jalaldeen noted that some parents usually fail to put in place enough measures in terms of monitoring the movement of their children.

He said “This issue of kidnapping is not only an issue with Takoradi but a nationwide issue and all of us should be serious with the way we do things. Some parents give their children to commercial tricycle riders whom they [the parents] don’t know. Parents contract them to be picking their children from school and back home. The difficulty is that though, you’re looking for money; you’re busy with work because you want to sustain yourself and be able to take care of your children. But you’re now jeopardizing the lives of the children by allowing a total stranger to pick them on your behalf.”

He continued that “We need to prioritize the way we see our children and don’t expose them too much. If adults are being kidnapped, then what about the younger ones who are even more vulnerable?”
