Communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, John Paul Danka, has admonished newly nominated Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Upper East Region to cultivate the skills of lobbying to enable them get significant number of votes from Assembly Members in order to be confirmed as MDCEs.
He said employing lobbying skills is tantamount to campaigning to the assembly members for confirmation.
Mr. Paul Danka gave this advice when he appeared on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East programme.
He said “At the normal circumstances when you call for a general house meeting, the assembly is supposed to give you T and T. This time round when a nominee comes, you have two strategies; first and foremost, you have to tell the house why you are organizing this meeting, you introduce yourself, tell them your vision and mission, just like what happens in parliament. It is like you are campaigning to get confirmation. That’s all. It is like you are campaigning, telling them who you are and what you can do and all that. That is the time.”
Mr. Danka also charged the Assembly Members to refrain from demanding monies from nominees before granting them approval, stating that such acts constitute vote buying.
To him, seeking monies from nominees before confirming them is a recipe for underperformance in those districts and municipalities.
