Director of Legal Affairs for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), lawyer Abraham Amaliba, has expressed his disappointment in the report of the Committee of Inquiry constituted to probe the circumstances that led to the disturbances at Ejura.

It could be recalled that two persons were shot and killed by military officers in June this year following a protest in connection with the killing of a social media activist, Ibrahim Muhammed aka Kaaka Macho at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

The committee released its report on Monday, September 27,2021.

It amongst other things, recommended that the District Chief Executive (DCE) be removed from office for exhibiting gross incompetence on the matter as well as compensation for families of the victims.

But assessing the committee’s report on Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio, Mr. Amaliba described it as bogus.

“I am disappointed because there hasn’t been any punishment meted out to any of the culprits. Why will you even be talking about the District Chief Executive when the Regional Minister publicly told this country that he ordered the military operations in Ejura? He has not been given any mention there. Those who are well connected have been left off the hook and they are going in for those who are less connected but nonetheless, even they have not been punished. It is a bogus report which does not provide punishment to persons who have been found in these actions.” He told show host Samuel Mbura.

According to Mr. Amaliba the committee erred by not applauding Multimedia journalist, Erastus Asare Donko, whose work  it relied heavily on to get its findings.

He said lauding the journalist would have assuaged the pains he went through due to the attacks he received from the chairman of the defense and interior committee of parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Meanwhile, the family of Ibrahim Mohammed as well as most residents of Ejura have rejected the committee’s report.
