Some residents of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region have raised concerns over the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at vantage locations in the regional capital; saying the purpose of the security cameras may not be achieved if authorities fail to fix the poor street lighting system in the town.

The Government, through the National Security Ministry has begun the installation of CCTV cameras across the country to help the Ghana Police Service in fighting crime and Traffic violations.

But speaking exclusively to A1 News, a resident said “The streets lights are not working, assuming in the night, you come to park your motorbike and someone takes it, when you go to the office to complain, they will not be able to identify the face of the person because there is no street lights here. So they should try and come and make it for us. That one will also help.”

“Because the streets are always dark in the night, so my opinion is that, the government should now work on the street lights so that the cameras can work well in the night.” Another resident added.

They further called on authorities in-charge to ensure that the security cameras are well maintained to effectively help in fighting crime in the region.
