Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu constituency in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged his colleague MPs across the country to shy away from selfishness and greed and prioritize the development of their various constituencies.

To him, it was not prudent for MPs to sit aloof and rely only on the paltry amount of money usually given to them as common fund to development.

Speaking in an interview on Daybreak Upper East programme on A1 Radio, Mr. Ablakwa who is known for his innovative initiatives towards the development of his constituency and its residents stated that parliamentarians did not need to be wealthy in order to develop their constituencies.

According to the Former Deputy Minister for Education, MPs must develop the spirit of lobbying development agents as well as philanthropists to bring about the needed change in their constituencies.

“I don’t believe in just sitting back and waiting for the MPs common fund because it is not even adequate. Neither do I believe in keeping whatever comes to me as salary all to myself and my family; no. I believe that we should be caring, we should be generous. When you live in a community where there are problems and there are challenges that you need to address as a  leader, you must rise up those challenges; and the place can be better for all of us. If everybody is happy, you are the biggest beneficiary and you can sleep soundly that you have also made a mark. And you are living a legacy to improve the lot of your people because really that’s what politics is about. That’s why some us came into public service.” He said.
