Newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga, has promised to focus on internal revenue mobilization instead of depending on District Assembly’s common fund.

“I want to depart from this era of waiting for the common fund because it will not help us.” He said on Daybreak Upper East programme on A1Radio.

Mr. Asanga explained that the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly was financially incapacitated and he believes generating revenue internally was the only way the Assembly could see development.

According to him, having enough revenue at the disposal of the assembly plays an important role towards its development hence the need to generate revenue internally.

He went on to emphasize the need for residents to pay their taxes if they wanted the municipality to develop.

“I think that we have so much to do but we have so little revenue and so that is an area that we ought to start from. I have been told during the short period that I have been going round trying to talk with  the assemblymen and one of their main concern was they think that we are not maximizing our efforts of revenue mobilisation. So many businesses exist here; yet they are not paying anything to the municipality. You want the traffic light to go off without being repaired?  Everybody is complaining that the assembly is not doing anything and yet when it comes to actually honouring our tax obligation, we are not doing it. That should be a first point of call. All these numerous things we think they are good and necessary to be done, without money and revenue they cannot be done.” He said.

On Thursday, September 30, 2021, Mr. Asanga obtained Yes votes from all 39 Assembly Members present; representing one hundred percent endorsement of his nomination for the position of MCE.
