The Presiding Member for Nabdam District Assembly, Sampana Zuure, has expressed conviction that members of the Assembly will today endorse the President’s nominee, Agnes Namoo as District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.

It could be recalled that Assembly Members in Nabdam, during their last meeting rejected Mrs. Namoo as DCE for the area.

Out of 19 votes, Mrs. Namoo garnered 12; a vote shy of amassing the two-third majority mandated by the constitution.

Her rejection was met with outrage from the youth of the area who criticised the Upper East Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo, and other key figures within the party for allegedly influencing the members to reject the nominee.

In accordance with the Local Government’s Act, members of the Assembly are expected to reconvene a meeting today Thursday, October 07, 2021, at 4pm; ten days after the last election, to confirm the nominee or otherwise.

Speaking exclusively on Daybreak Upper East programme on A1 Radio ahead of the meeting, Mr. Zuure said his interaction with the Assembly Members has given him hope that Mrs. Namoo will be confirmed this time round.

“I have summoned a meeting today for them to confirm the President’s nominee, Madam Agnes Namoo. All what the differences might have been, I can only confirm that today Insha Allahu, she will be confirmed as the DCE for the smooth running of the assembly. We tried to address whatever might have caused it [her rejection]. Everybody spoke their mind; we all agreed that today all will be set for her confirmation. Besides that I have been talking to honorable members one on one to look at how we can run the assembly. That’s all what I have done as a leader.” He noted.

Mr. Zuure also used the medium to appeal to the youth of the area to shy away from violence and be as peaceful as possible to preserve the reputation of the district as a law abiding one.
