NDC communicator doubts Bawumia’s chances of winning NPP presidential primaries

A communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdullah Salifu Jonathan, is skeptical of the chances of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia winning the presidential primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Although, Mr. Salifu reckons the primaries will be a two-horse-race between Dr. Bawumia and the Minister for Trades and Industry, Allan Kojo Kyeremanteng, he believes the notion that the NPP is an ‘Akan party’ will play a key role in determining who emerges victorious in the contest.

Whiles Mr. Salifu foresees Dr. Bawumia winning in all the 5 northern regions, he also expects Mr. Kyeremanteng to win massively in the Akan speaking regions of Ghana.

“For Upper East, I see it to be Bawumia’s stronghold. To be frank with you, I don’t see either Allan or any other candidate beating him or getting more votes in this part of the country than Dr. Bawumia. I will be surprised should that happen. Likewise, in the Ashanti Region; I don’t also see Dr. Bawumia beating Allan in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.” Mr. Salifu said on Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio.

But the Secretary of the NPP in the Navrongo Constituency, Moses Amoah, somewhat disagrees with Mr. Salifu.

To him, Vice President Bawumia has worked hard for the governing party, a reason he stands tall among the other potential presidential candidates.

According to him, the fact that Dr. Bawumia has been the brain behind most of the flagship programmes of the government means he has endeared himself to all the rank and file of the party.

“To be totally frank with you, I don’t see Allan beating Bawumia in this contest; I must be honest with you. Even though, I see it as a keenly contested election, I don’t see Allan beating Bawumia in this election. I think that per the kind of pedigree he has created for himself and impact with the party and government, I see him as someone who is most likely to emerge victorious in this election.”
