Former Navrongo Central MP, Kofi Adda passes away

Former Navrongo Central Member of Parliament in the Upper East Region, Joseph Kofi Adda has died. Information reaching A1 NEWS indicates that the former Aviation Minister died on Thursday dawn at a hospital in Accra after a short ailment.

The former lawmaker first became a Member of Parliament in 2003. He won the seat through a by-election after the death of the then incumbent, John Achuliwor who died in a motor accident on January 25, 2003. He retained his seat in the 2004 parliamentary election.

He was appointed the Minister for Manpower Development and Employment by former president John Agyekum Kufour in 2005. On 28 April 2006, he was moved in a cabinet reshuffle to the position of Minister for Energy.

He was later replaced by Felix Owusu-Adjapong as Minister of Energy by President Kuffuor. Mr. Koffi Adda retained his seat when the NPP lost the general elections in 2008. He however lost the seat in the 2012 elections to the NDC’s Mark Owen Woyongo who was a former regional minister for the Upper East Region. Mr. Woyongo held the seat for the NDC until he lost it in 2016 to Mr. Kofi Adda.

Mr. Kofi Adda was booted out by Madam Tangoba Abayage, a former Upper East Regional Minister during the Navrongo Central NPP parliamentary primaries.

Mr. Kofi Adda was a Catholic, married with two children.
