A registered community health nurse at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Felicia Sampana Tempoka has encouraged members of the general public to heartily welcome family planning in order to prevent unintended pregnancies.

According to her, the rate at which teenagers, as well as married women, get pregnant unplanned, could be nipped in the bud if the general public gives family planning a chance.

She added that embarking on family planning plays a crucial role in curtailing the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in the country; thereby urging all Ghanaians to consider embarking on it.

“It helps the couple to avoid unintended pregnancies. You will just be there and by the time you realize you are pregnant; it will help you to be able to plan properly before you become pregnant. It also helps you to prevent Sexually Transmitted Infections, like the condoms for both males and females; it can help reduce the STDs”, explained Mrs. Tempoka in an A1 Radio’s interview on Wednesday.

She went further to explain that embarking on family planning is effective in improving the fertility level of couples and thus urged men to always accompany their wives to health facilities to access family planning services.

Mrs. Tempoka also used the medium to advice members of the public to disabuse their minds of the myths associated with family planning, and therefore described it as a complete fallacy.
