The Young Northern Women Network (YNWN), a female empowerment group in the Upper West Region, led by its Executive Director, Dr. Hamidatu Darimani has embarked on a three-day outreach to selected schools within the Wa Municipality. The goal is to inspire and arm young girls sitting for this year’s BECE examination to pass with distinction.

The team led by Dr. Darimani who doubles as the Dean for the School of Engineering at the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University has currently visited schools in Jonga, Kadoli, Charingu, and Doodiyiri. The schools include Sharkafatu Islamic JHS, Nuriya Islamic JHS, Aswaj Islamic JHS, Falahiya Islamic JHS, Falahiya Model JHS, Adabiya Islamic JHS, and Huriya Islamic JHS. Dr. Darimani after her interaction with the girls distributed mathematical sets and sanitary pads.

The founder of the YNWN sharing her thoughts with A1 Radio at Wa mentioned that she was inspired by global media queen, Oprah Winfrey saying “even greater than the ability to inspire others with hope is the power to motivate them to give as much to the lives of others as they would give to their own; and to empower them to confront the worst in themselves in order to discover and claim the best in themselves”.

Dr. Darimani’s message to the girls included the need for them to pray, focus, work hard and perseverance adding that the aforementioned “will take you places even spaceships can’t reach”.

The Young Northern Women Network’s mission is to create opportunities for northern women to allow them to explore and discover unique passions with purpose and power.
