The Talensi District Health Director Madam Estella Abazesi has admonished opinion leaders in the district to help health professionals educate community members about the significance of the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination exercise.

In an interview with A1 News, Madam Abazesi stated that the Talensi District Health Directorate has made available enough vaccines in all health centers in the district and asked people to avail themselves. She said this is needed to control the spread of the virus.

According to Madam Abazesi, if traditional rulers as well as assembly members, actively take part in the mobilization and education on the importance of the jab, residents will see the need to get vaccinated to reduce the spread of the virus.

“What we expect and are calling on them [Chiefs] to do is to help us in the mobilization of their people so that we will go and give them more information about the vaccine and administer it to them.

We have made the vaccines available all over our health facilities and it is important for the people to take part in the exercise. [The challenge is that] some people still don’t want to go for the jab especially the men. But if the Chiefs, the Assembly members, the media and all opinion leaders in the communities take part in educating the people, it will help all of us” she said.

Madam Abazesi urged the public to disregard the misconceptions about the vaccines that abound on social media and take part in the exercise. She described the vaccine as safe for everybody except persons under the age of 18 and pregnant Women.
