Occupy Yorogo abattoir by December 15 – Bolga Municipal Assembly to butchers

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga Mr. Rex Asanga has directed butchers in the Municipality to move to the newly built abattoir in Yorogo community a suburb of the municipality before December 15, 2021.

Speaking to the media at the second General Assembly meeting for the year, the MCE revealed that the assembly has had several consultations with the butchers and have finally set December 15 as the deadline for their relocation to the newly built ultramodern abattoir at Yorogo. The General Assembly meeting was to which sought to approve the Municipality’s 2022 Budget and fee fixing resolutions.

According to Mr. Asanga, “the assembly had engaged the butchers and the butchers had given conditions, the Assembly has more or less fulfilled those conditions, they were left with training for the butchers to select some people to be trained in the management of the machines. That was what was left to be done and that was why suggested that we did not need to give more time because it is long overdue”.

Meanwhile, the Presiding Member for the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, Mr. Rawfield Abileo Nyaaba has explained that the assembly may have to resort to the application of force to compel butchers to relocate to the new facility if they fail to meet the December 15 deadline as agreed by the Assembly.

“Some of these funds we use to put up structures are normally from donor agencies and once it is from donor agencies, if you don’t put the structure into good use, they will not support you in the new future. And that one (new abattoir) we spent up to Ghs 1.2m on it and the assembly was unstable that is why we could not take a rigid decision on it” he stated.

He added that “we as an assembly, we need development and we have taken a decision. It was part of the chief executive’s address. So we came out with a ruling, we move a motion and it was accepted. So, by 15th of December if they fail to move to the site force must be applied because we will not agree”.

Underscoring the benefits their relocation will have on the Yorogo community, Mr. Nyaaba mentioned that it will help in the development of the area and also boost the revenue mobilization of the community and the Assembly as a whole.
