UE: 7 health facilities owed 2.5m GHC in NHIS claims

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is indebted to the Seven (7) health facilities in the Upper Eastern Region to the tune of 2,561,936.1 GHC as at August 2020. The health facilities include the Zuarungu Health Centre, Pelungu Health Centre, Sumbrungu Health Centre and the Zebilla District Hospital. The others are Talensi District Hospital, Gambibgo Health Centre and the Zuarungu Mobile Health Centre.

This was contained in the Report of The Auditor-General on the Accounts of District Assemblies for the Financial Year Ended 31 December 2020. According to the report, the Zebilla District Hospital is owed 1,626,616.46 GHC as arrears of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) claims; the highest in the region. Meanwhile, the Gambigbo Health Centre is owed claims of 100,630.47 GHC; the least in the region.

The report stated that outstanding NHIS claims among 46 health facilities across the country amount to over 20 million GHC.
