Students of the Simon Diedong-Dombo University for Business Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) have expressed some disquiet about the ongoing spat between the management of the school and its lecturers. This is after lecturers of the institution laid down their tools to press home their demands. The strike action by the lecturers is the second of its kind in less than a month.

The students have also described the current academic structure as unfair and insensitive to the needs of the students.

At a press briefing in Wa, the students led by the President of National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) at SDD-UBIDS, Chris Kwesi Majeed called on the management of the school to take deliberate steps to address the many concerns that students are facing.

“Decisions that have been made by the management of our university have been without genuine consideration about our [students] welfare. We had just finished our Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP) in October 2021 and returned home exhausted from the multiple challenges. While still recovering from the multiple anxieties and problems we faced in those communities, the management of our university inconsiderately decided to exacerbate our plight by asking us to return to school on the 8th of November, 2021,” Mr. Majeed explained.

Mr. Majeed explained that it was unfair to ask students to return to school in November this year when their counterparts in other schools are to return to school next year.

Even worse, the students said, is that after returning to school, lecturers have been forced to go on a strike because their concerns have are yet to be met by management. Mr. Majeed explained that the current disrupts educational activities in the school; a situation that does not auger well for the students.
