Awonekai Figo – NPP Communication Director for Bolgatanga Central Constituency

New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Director for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Awonekai Figo says the surest way for public workers to get any better condition of service is through strike.

Doctors in the public sector are currently on a partial strike to demand the provision of a formal document stating their conditions of service while stressing that they will only return to work when their issues are addressed.

According to him it appears the NDC government has no regard for workers and only understands strike action. The NPP communications director was speaking on A1 radio’s Zina Yela with Joshua Asaa Monday in Bolgatanga. His comments follows what appears to be a buffet of strikes by medical doctors, nurses and other labor unions in the country to register their displeasure over their working conditions.

Mr. Awonekai stated that following the recent strike of the 90 junior doctors over their salaries that yielded a positive result, he is convinced that the medical doctors as well as some striking labor unions will soon realize a positive result.

The NPP communication director added that government has what it takes to solve workers problems in the country but the lackadaisical approach by government is worsening the situations.

Commenting on a widely speculated statement that the doctors took a vow to serve Ghanaians so for that matter their strike over allowances is uncalled for, Mr. Awonekai alleged that the President, John Dramani Mahama took a vow to serve Ghanaians but has failed. While calling on the government to go back to the negotiation table with the doctors, the NPP communication director appealed to the striking doctors to temper justice with mercy and reconsider their decision.
