National Chairman hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Asamoah Boateng, popularly known as ‘Asabee’ has advised politicians in Ghana to uphold the tenets of the country’s democracy giving electorates the chance to choose their own leaders instead of imposing candidates on them.

According to him, it is time political parties in the country particularly NPP and NDC begin to imbibe the culture of creating congenial atmospheres for the electorates to freely express their minds on the specific candidates they prefer to steer the affairs of the nation.

He gave the advice while articulating his plans for the New Patriotic Party if given the nod as a National chairman in an interview with A1 Radio.

He said it is crucial for political parties to place a high priority on the people as that is the only catalyst that can propel the country to development.

“One of the things I think the NPP and other political parties including even the NDC must share is that if we want to run this country properly, we must listen to people. We don’t have to force issues. You don’t have to force candidates on people; you have to let people tell you what they think and let them”, he admonished.

Mr. Boateng also bemoaned that the politicians have taken the Ghanaian electorate for a ride and thus urged a paradigm shift in the situation. He said the practice of politicians promising electorates without fulfilling is tantamount to hypocrisy and must be stopped.

He further urged politicians to place a premium on creating job opportunities for young people in the country when in power since that will help ease pressure on leadership. Mr. Boateng is a former Member of Parliament for Mfanstiman Constituency in the Central Region, a former Information Minister, former Local Government Minister as well as Minister for Environment, Tourism and Diaspora Relations.

He is expected to vie for the National chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has to shrug off competition from the party’s current chairman, Freddie Blay to be able to realise his dream.
