36-year-old Faustina Aboba’s pub and apartment were razed by fire three weeks ago in Tanzui community, a suburb of Bolgatanga by an alleged police officer named Sergeant Saviour Senaya.

The officer is said to be with the Upper East Regional Police Command and was accused of setting fire to Faustina’s pub and apartment after a misunderstanding broke between him and Faustina sister’s daughter, Eunice who was said to be his lover.

Eunice, according to Faustina is in her early 20s and was dating the officer. When the officer discovered that, Eunice has an ex-boyfriend, the officer went bitter and told Eunice that he will teach her a lesson and as a result burnt her apartment and pub.

Since the incident, Faustina said, life has been like hell to her family as what they will eat or sleep is a challenge.

“Now, I and my siblings including my 70-year-old mother are sleeping on the open. We don’t have anywhere to sleep. Aside from that, my landlord is on my neck, I don’t know what to do”, she said.

Six rooms of the apartment including Faustina’s room got burnt beyond recognition.

Faustina said she has reported the case to the police and they assured her of investigating the matter but for nearly three weeks she had not heard from the police, yet, sees the suspect walking freely.

The situation, Mary Aboba, mother of Faustina, however, called on the police department to be kind and devoid of favour on the said officer as they want justice for his action.

Tenants of the affected apartment who were all shocked over the action of the officer questioned the police department of “delayed justice” on the said officer.

They said they are now leaving in fear as they do not know when the said officer will come and attack them again, adding that “…the apartment is now in total darkness”.

Meanwhile, when A1 Radio contacted the police department in the region, it says since the incident was reported, an investigation was initiated to unravel the facts to understand the actions of the said officer who has been arrested and granted bail.
