Students of the Tongo Senior High/Technical School in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region who have for two years, used the shade provided by a Dawadawa tree as dining hall have been ‘rescued’ by a businessman in the area.

The school, since its establishment, even after its absorption into the public school system by the current political administration, is yet to receive any infrastructural support.

The situation forced teachers and students to make to with makeshift structures to attend to their teaching and learning needs while waiting for government support.

The sad plight of the students, a Philanthropist Martin Atiah Aduko said, was so terrifying and thus compelled him to go to the aid of the school. Mr. Aduko has constructed a pavilion to serve as a temporary dining hall for students.

The pavilion was completed in a week. Mr Aduko however admitted that more needs to be done for the school in terms of infrastructure. He thus called on well-meaning individuals and organisations to go to the aid of the school to help address some of its challenges stressing that education is a shared responsibility.

While the school remains a day school, management has been able to provide students who live in distant places with accommodation.

Appreciating the gesture by the businessman, the Headmaster of the School, Peter Apana noted that the pavilion will serve as a multipurpose structure for the school.

“It is going to be our students’ dining hall, Assembly hall, and used for other activities. So, I must that we are grateful for the gesture,” he said.
